His Island Bride is a cute story. I like it for what it could have been and that's why I gave it two stars but it lacks detail and has no depth. I prefer longer books for this very reason. This was a very short story which I would not have gotten had I have know how short it was. On Amazon it says that the book is 145 pages long but it's really only maybe a good 40 pages long or about an hour read. Chapters 7,8,10 and 12 are only two pages each and chapter 11 was only twelve sentences. In His Island Bride the heroine, Jessica is a 30 year old slightly overweight, curvy girl from Canada with a weird obsession for the TV show Columbo. After Jessica's kleptomaniac ex cheated on her and married her best friend, her mother tells her that thinks that she's starting to turn into an old maid and wants to arrange a marriage for her. Jessica is initially being turned off by the idea of an arranged marriage but she reluctantly agrees meet the guy and consider it. In the meantime she has plans to vacation in Jamaica.
James is a sexy C.E.O. and founder of a tech company from Europe who also loves the TV show Columbo. He's taking a break from the stresses of work and family by going on a vacation in Jamaica.
The hotel installs a new booking system which accidentally double books James's suite. When James returns to his suite he finds a shocked and frightened Jessica fresh out the shower in only a towel. After calling the hotel front desk they find out all the rooms at the hotel and every other hotel on that side of the island is booked solid. With the sun about to set the only other option is that Jessica can get a car and travel the other side of the island to stay at their sister hotel that has a room available. James and Jessica decide to just make the best of an inconvenient situation and to share the suite. They find that they like the same carribean foods, they do a bunch of touristy stuff together and bond over twelve days. This leads to love, sex and mind blowing orgasms.
James's mother calls while he is out of the room. Jessica answers and after questioning insist she's just a friend to which his mother mentions him having a fiancee. Feeling lied to by James, Jessica immediately returns to Canada on the first flight out of Jamaica. Feeling heart broken again Jessica agrees to meet the guy her mom want to arrange a marriage with. When they arrive, Jessica enters their room to see James and his mother. He explains that his fiancee that his mom talking about was her and that their mothers were trying to arrange a marriage for them. He confesses his love, proposes to her and they're married a month later is Jamaica.

His Island Bride The Bride Series Book 4 edition by Shadonna Richards Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Jessica Mills is from a working class family whose mother wants to marry her off to a man with lineage. With her bad record, nearing 30 and a little overweight with bad dress sense to boot she decides to take her mothers choice, someone she is yet to meet or speak to, seriously. That is she agrees to meet him after a two week holiday in steamy Montego Bay, Jamaica
James Carrington is a wealthy businessman who heads off to the same country, city and resort to get away from family, work and opportunist women that want him for one thing only.
A mix up at the hotel has the two sharing a room, with an instant attraction between the two, with James finding Jess gorgeously proportioned, unlike the skin and bones women he is used to. They are like two peas in a pod with similar likes and dislikes, conversing for hours on their first meeting, and for the next 10 days spending time together doing once in a lifetime activities.
Although with a physical and intellectual connection never felt by either, both keep secrets, with Jess heading back home to her prearranged marriage when she receives some heartbreaking news about James.
I did enjoy the story, very sweet, sensuous without gratuitous scenes, however I did guess the ending, which was somewhat a little too obvious so for that I had to give it a 3 stars. I would still recommend it as a short, nice read with not too much thinking required. Perfect for on the beach!
This book was very poorly executed. I'm wondering if the author had anyone that wasn't afraid to give constructive criticism read it, or if everyone just gave the banal "its good" and then she went with it? Here's the thing, we've all read the "Billionaire meets working girl while on vacation and they fall madly in love" story. There are probably millions of versions of this same story out there, and for the most part, we (the readers) like them. Its a Cinderella tale that never gets old. I don't have a problem with that part of this novella. IF it had been written better, I probably would have enjoyed the read, despite its predictability. BUT there were entirely too many implausible scenarios mashed in with lack-luster character development that basically killed this story...and lost this author a future potential reader/customer.
*SPOILER* Don't read beyond this point if you don't want the "plot" ruined for you...
Ok, BIG Problem #1 - as an amateur genealogist I find the idea of a Working Class Canadian woman finding out that she is descendent from an English Earl and then all of a sudden she starts to call herself "Lady Mills", thinks she is actually a Blue Blood worthy of arranging her daughter's marriage as if its the 18th Century, somehow gets into contact with the mother of a current Earl in England and bamboozles the English woman into thinking her modern day Canadian daughter is "Upper Crust" marriage material...is ABSOLUTE DRIVEL. I am descendent from William the Conqueror and never once have I referred to myself as "Princess" nor thought I should be a part of that world. Only the biggest twit would actually behave as this mother does in the book, which as a character makes her incredibly unlikeable. Despite this, the author could have made it work if the main character wouldn't have gone along with her mother's schemes...but she does which only transfers the "twit-ness" onto the main character. Lets call it as it is...a Blind Date NOT an arranged marriage. I honestly expected from the description of the book that the main character would be Indian or something where arranged marriages are still a bit common place.
Problem #2 - There is no way an upscale Jamaican resort would double book a Billionaire and a not-billionaire in the same room...for the simple reason that their price points would be so unbelievably out of each other's "range" that I would find it more believable that she was put into the "maid's quarters" of his private villa by accident (similar name to real maid as an idea?) than what was written in this story. After all, she would have probably booked her vacation on expedia for the best deal on a budget and he would have booked through a travel agent with "no" budget. Same room? I don't think so. And IF such a mistake had actually happened, they would have bent themselves into pretzels to fix the situation for the simple reason he is a BILLIONAIRE! (and apparently a previous and well-liked guest, too)
Problem #3 - No character development. I said it before, but it deserves another mention. I already didn't like the main woman because she's obviously inherited her mother's stupidity, but I was never given any reason to like the main guy either. Their "love" was unbelievable and so fast that I felt like the author accidentally left out the middle part of the book.
If the author (or other writers) read this; remember it is ESSENTIAL to get constructive criticism on your work before you publish. If all anyone is saying is "its good" or "I like it" then your work has big problems and they are being too nice because they don't want to hurt your feelings.
